Meet the Teacher Night...
Meet the Teacher Night
Nathan Adams Elementary
August 26, 2014
Helpful Information
Students will have homework each night in at least one subject. They will be receiving an
assignment book to write down their assignments. Please encourage them to use the
assignment book and to keep up with it. If your child forgets his/her homework, they may bring
it the next day. In general, your child will not have homework on the weekends except for
projects. Students should read every night and practice reviewing multiplication facts in
addition to nightly homework.
Absences
Please send your child to school unless they have a fever or are vomiting. Attendance is very
important and we need the students at school each day. It is also important to be at school on
time. We begin the day as soon as the first bell rings at 7:55am. When students are late, it
does not set a good tone for the day. Your child will be counted tardy if they arrive after
8:05am. If your child does stay home sick, they must return with a written excuse for the
absence. If a note is not sent within 3 days, the absence will be marked unexcused. The school
district will send a letter if you child has 3 or more unexcused absences. Please encourage your
child to complete any work missed while absent within 3 days.
Field Trips
We will have at least 2 field trips this year. Monies will be collected as each date approaches.
Dress Code
Students are expected to wear the uniform each day. Please make sure that they wear a belt
and that their pants aren’t sagging. Shirts must be tucked in. Girl’s pants and shirts must be
sized to fit. We need to make sure that skirts are not too short and pants are not too tight.
Behavior Management
As a grade level team, we will focus on responsibility for each student’s own actions. We will
use a reward system for students who are making responsible choices. Each student will have a
chart. As they make good solid decisions, they will be given signatures. The goal is to fill up the
chart in order to get a draw out the teacher’s prize box. Once the chart is filled, they will
receive a new chart to start the process over. Each student will have a different chart for each
of their teachers. We want to focus on recognizing the students who are making good choices
instead of the ones who are not.

Team Focus
We will be working on building executive skills. This includes teaching the students to be
organized and work in an efficient manner. We will model this to the students and continually
have discussions on executive skills. These skills will be needed in order to be a successful
middle school student next year. We also want to teach the students to produce quality work
and be able to assess their own work.
